Stanford picked to win Pac-12; Shaw convinced media haven't a clue

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

David Shaw is calling a timeout on the media.

Despite taking Stanford to the Pac-12 championship in three of the last four years, Shaw cares not for the media's preseason selection of his team to repeat as Pac-12 victors this season.

"This truly shows that you guys have no idea what you're doing," Shaw said at the Pac-12 media days when asked about being named the conference favorite.

Crazy, the media might be, but it's nowhere near insane to think Stanford could continue its run of success in 2016. The Cardinal possess, arguably, the most valuable player in the nation in do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey and has won in the past with an inexperienced quarterback.

In fact, it was Kevin Hogan - who Stanford must now replace - who stepped in for Andrew Luck after the 2011 season and led the program to the Pac-12 title the very next year as a freshman.
