Jeff Tedford joins Washington as consultant

Former Cal head coach Jeff Tedford has joined Washington on a one-year deal to serve as a consultant, Huskies coach Chris Petersen confirmed to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

"He's a guy I've known for a long time," Petersen said of Tedford. "Obviously a very good football mind, and a very good person."

Tedford spent the 2015 season in the CFL as the head coach of the BC Lions, but resigned at the end of a disastrous 3-9 campaign. Before that, Tedford spent one year as the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"He's done the NFL a little bit and he's done the Canadian League, and I think he's come to the realization that he wants to be a college coach," Petersen said.

Tedford spent 11 seasons as the head coach at Cal, leading the Golden Bears to an 82-57 record between 2002-2012. At Washington, he'll reunite with Petersen, with whom he worked when they were offensive assistants at Oregon in the 1990s.

The Huskies are looking to improve on last year's 7-6 mark, and begin the new season Sept. 3 at home versus Rutgers.
