Freeze has 'zero update' on Ole Miss investigation

Spruce Derden / USA TODAY Sports

Nothing has changed since you or anybody else last checked in on the NCAA's investigation of Ole Miss.

"I have zero update," head coach Hugh Freeze said to reporters Thursday at the SEC media days. "Obviously our response is out to the allegations. It stands on its own, and we can't discuss any ongoing matters. That's one of the frustrating things, but out of respect for the process, you can't do it."

The Rebels are being investigated by the NCAA for eight Level 1 violations, three of which are related to impermissible benefits potentially provided to former left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Overall, Freeze's program faces 13 NCAA alleged infractions.

Not only was Freeze unable to provide an update on the situation, but he added he has no idea when any resolution could come.

"I asked that yesterday and could not get a concrete answer," he said. "It's moving, I think. I'm not involved in the fact-finding at this point. But I think it is moving."

In March, Freeze compared the speed of the NCAA investigation to that of a "four-year colonoscopy." Ole Miss has already self-imposed scholarship restrictions in wake of the ongoing investigation.
