In the same park where he delivered an emotional patriotic speech three years ago, David Ortiz left the Fenway faithful with another lasting memory on his final Fourth of July game.

During the second inning of Boston's Independence Day clash with Texas, Ortiz smacked a ground-rule double off Rangers right-hander Nick Martinez to break a tie with Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski for the 12th most extra-base hits in baseball history.

Ortiz's MLB-leading 33rd double of the season was the 1158th extra-base hit of his career, leaving him 27 shy of Albert Pujols on the all-time leaderboard.

The Red Sox DH now has 618 doubles, and needs just eight more to pass Hank Aaron for the 10th-most ever.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Ortiz has made quite clear his patriotism for the United States ever since his memorable speech in the aftermath of the Boston marathon bombings.

Dating back to 2011, Ortiz now has three doubles and a homer in his last five Fourth of July games.
