Report: 'No chance' Chandler Parsons returns to Mavericks

Don't hold your breath if you're expecting to see forward Chandler Parsons in a Dallas Mavericks uniform next season and beyond.

A source told ESPN's Tim MacMahon that there's "no chance" the 27-year-old re-signs with the franchise as an unrestricted free agent after declining his $16-million player option for the 2016-17 campaign.

With the Mavericks looking to make a big push to acquire both center Hassan Whiteside and point guard Mike Conley, a source also told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Dwain Price that Parsons' run with the Mavericks is likely over.

Parsons is confident that his on-court ability warrants a max contract on the open market, which he proclaimed on Twitter by saying how he's "really good at basketball."

While Whiteside and Conley remain management's top priorities once free agency gets underway on July 1, the team would reportedly be willing to turn its attention back to Parsons if its efforts fell through, despite being unwilling to lock him in to a max deal.

A giant red flag which could hinder Parsons' value is an ailing right knee which ended each of his past two seasons prematurely. That seems to be enough to deter Dallas, but other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Portland Trail Blazers are all reportedly interested in possibly coming to terms on a deal.

In 61 appearances last season, Parsons averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 29.5 minutes while shooting 49.2 percent from the field.
