Report: Giants have Reddick on internal target list

If Josh Reddick does get traded this July, he might need nothing more than a one-way trip on the BART to find his new home.

The Oakland Athletics outfielder is reportedly on a list of preliminary trade targets put together by the San Francisco Giants, according to Joe Stiglich of CSN Bay Area. There's no indication that the teams have discussed the free-agent-to-be just yet.

On paper, Reddick and the Giants would seem to be an excellent match. The 29-year-old would instantly fill the hole in right field created by Hunter Pence's hamstring injury and would serve as a major boost for a team with serious World Series aspirations. Reddick also brings Gold Glove defense and solid production with him, as he was hitting .322/.394/.466 through 41 games this year before landing on the disabled list with a broken thumb.

What's unclear is if Oakland is even willing to trade him at all. On Sunday, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that the team will revisit extension talks with him before the Aug. 1 trade deadline, with a move becoming more likely if no deal is reached by then - though keeping him to net a qualifying offer in the winter would remain an option. Team and player are apparently far apart in both years and terms, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Reddick is expected to return from the DL on Tuesday, when the Athletics face - coincidentally - the Giants at AT&T Park.

The Bay Area teams haven't made a trade with each other since December 1990, when Oakland sent Darren Lewis and a minor leaguer to San Francisco for Ernie Riles.
