Kameron Martin credits Art Briles' guidance for Auburn commitment

Kameron Martin still believes in Art Briles.

The four-star commit and former Baylor signee sought out advice from the former Baylor head coach during his official visit to Auburn last weekend. Martin sought advice from the man who initially recruited him and took his words to heart, leading to his decision to choose the Tigers.

"He helped me - I still have a great relationship with him," Martin told Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports. "He just told me that Auburn is a great fit for me with Coach Gus Malzahn and his coaching staff. He said if I was going to Baylor and he was there, it would be the same type of vibe (as at Auburn). He told me Coach Gus would take care of me. He said with him, it's about the player, about the university. And shoot, he's an offensive guru."

Malzahn had high praise for Martin well before Briles' downfall at Baylor, as the Auburn bench boss discussed his commitment to Baylor with Briles and commended him on their talent at the running back position.

"When Coach Gus went to Baylor a few months ago, they told (Baylor), 'You guys have the best running back in the country,'" Martin said. "Coach Briles started laughing and was like, 'We know.'"

Martin clearly looks beyond the sexual assault scandal that disgraced the once highly regarded head coach and still values their relationship.

"He's one of my mentors," Martin said. "He's a great guy. It's sad everything ended that way. Me and Coach Briles will always have a wonderful relationship."
