Each matchday throughout Euro 2016, we'll provide you with a briefing of everything you need to know from France after the day's matches have concluded; highlights of the action, the most pressing news from the tournament, and, of course, a look ahead to the following day.

From the pitch

Portugal 1, Croatia 0 (AET): Quaresma's 117th-minute goal gives wins humdrum affair

Bordering on unwatchable, the worst match of the tournament was decided with only seconds remaining. Poor Croatia.

Wales 1, Northern Ireland 0: McAuley own goal fires Wales into last 8

History continues to be made by the Welsh, who were the beneficiaries of an unfortunate own goal from Gareth McAuley in the second half.

Poland 1, Switzerland 1 (5-4 on pens): Penalties needed for Poles to secure quarter-final berth

First knockout match of the tournament. First penalty shootout. Granit Xhaka was the only player to miss.

In the news

Wales awaits news on captain Williams' injured shoulder after win

Ashley Williams refused to be taken off in the victory over Northern Ireland after crashing violently with a teammate, despite the fact that he couldn't move his left arm for much of the second half.

Euro 2016 bids farewell to Will Grigg, Northern Ireland's unused cult hero

Will Grigg's on fire. That is all.

Boateng poised to start against Slovakia after overcoming calf injury

Good news for Joachim Low, who is expected to have the services of his best defender for Sunday's contest against Slovakia.

Italy's Candreva ruled out of Spain clash

Italy apparently upset the injury gods somehow. A depleted squad will now be without arguably its most skilled player, as Antonio Candreva will miss Monday's match against the two-time defending champion. Look for Alessandro Florenzi to take his place on the right side of midfield.
