David Edgar training with Whitecaps ahead of potential transfer

Thirty-seven time Canada international David Edgar wants to return to North America, and his most likely destination appears to be the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 29-year-old defender is unattached after being released by Championship club Birmingham City, and the British Columbia outfit has had Edgar in training since Tuesday's tilt against Toronto FC.

"I had a good chat with the gaffer (Carl Robinson)," Edgar said. "He's very interested in me and we'll see where it goes from here. It was a good look into how the whole club works.

"I've got a big decision coming up."

While Edgar's words suggest the ball is in his court when it comes to making the move, manager Robinson suggests he's still assessing the Newcastle United academy graduate and pondering a deal.

"We'll see where we go with it," Robinson told TSN Radio's Peter Schaad.

"He's an organizer. He's a talker. Obviously he's at a good age for us. He's a good size. He can build out from the back, which I think sometimes we've lacked this year, and he also likes to defend.

"He's an international footballer, he's played at a very good level in England - and played consistently - so it's just something we're having a look at."

Edgar was on loan at Sheffield United in League One last season, and would provide options at both full-back and centre-back in Vancouver.
