Packers' McCarthy: Julius Peppers is 'ageless'

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

During the 2015 season, Green Bay Packers linebacker Julius Peppers continued to prove that when it comes to him, age is simply a number.

The 36-year-old racked up 37 tackles and 10.5 sacks last season, and head coach Mike McCarthy is in awe of the production Peppers is still able to provide.

"Julius Peppers is ageless," McCarthy told Ryan Wood of Packersnews.com.

Contrary to what you'd expect, Peppers hasn't spent the offseason resting a body that's played through 14 NFL seasons. Instead, he's been a constant presence at the Packers facility.

The NFL's active sack leader said when he entered the league in 2002, he was able to take two or three months off during the offseason. But heading into his 15th season, he has just a month of rest before returning to work.

"Now," Peppers said, "I can't do that. I've got to stay active."

One of the ways Peppers maintains his fitness is by challenging younger teammates to a race. And not just any teammates, Peppers likes to test himself against Green Bay's defensive backs.

"I've been doing that since college," Peppers said. "I like to run. That's my thing. I like to run in the offseason. So I have a chance to get with those little guys and try to push myself and use one of those guys as a rabbit. I try to jump in there with them and see if I can keep up."

Peppers is reportedly one of several players, along with teammate Clay Matthews, who'll be interviewed by the NFL on the first day of training camp in regards to their link to PEDs in an Al Jazeera documentary.

Both Peppers and Matthews have denied any wrongdoing.
