Report: Chauncey Billups declined offer to become Magic assistant

The Orlando Magic have reportedly struck out in their pursuit of former NBA All-Star Chauncey Billups to serve as the team's lead assistant coach, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski reports that the two sides engaged in serious discussions for Billups to become Frank Vogel's top aide - and one of the NBA's highest-paid assistants - but that Billups ultimately declined the offer.

Billups indicated earlier this month that he hoped to join the Denver Nuggets' front office, with Wojnarowski adding that the 39-year-old still "has designs on a front-office career."

Billups spent parts of three seasons with the Nuggets as part of a 17-year career that also included stops in Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Minnesota, New York, and Los Angeles (Clippers).

The Magic hired Vogel last month after parting ways with Scott Skiles.
