Broncos' Thomas admits to 'thinking too much' last season

Despite catching 100 passes for 1,304 yards and six touchdowns, Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has called last season his worst since Peyton Manning joined the club in 2012.

Thomas elaborated on why he believed the season - which was plagued by drops and inconsistency, despite his gaudy numbers - fell short of expectations, during a recent interview with Alex Marvez and Kirk Morrison of Sirius XM NFL Radio. He pointed to his mother being released from prison and the time he missed learning the Broncos' new offense due to contract negotiations as reasons why.

"I think the main thing was sometimes thinking too much," Thomas said, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "As I got my deal done, my mom got out. I was happy to be back with my team, but it was going out on the field, getting the timing down with the new offense. I wasn't there for OTAs, I wasn't there for minicamp. And then you had new routes. It was different for the quarterbacks because it was something Peyton (Manning) had never done before, Brock (Osweiler) had never done, either."

Thomas' struggles came to a head in the postseason, as he was a non-factor in Denver's march to a Super Bowl title. He caught seven passes for 60 yards and no scores in three games, with Emmanuel Sanders shouldering the bulk of the receiving game.

The 28-year-old is entering his second season in head coach Gary Kubiak's offense and will have a full offseason to further acclimate himself in it.
