MLB by the numbers: Ichiro still 2 hits shy of 3,000

Given a chance to make history Friday night at Marlins Park, Ichiro Suzuki wasn't able to come through, as the venerable 42-year-old went 0-for-4 and failed to reach base for just the sixth time in 35 starts this year to remain two hits shy of 3,000 for his MLB career.

Still, while Ichiro didn't become the 30th player to reach the illustrious 3,000 hit plateau, there was still plenty of numerical trivia throughout the big leagues on Friday. Let's take a look at some.

1,252 - Combined distance traveled, in feet, by first-inning home runs from Jose Bautista (444), Edwin Encarnacion (414), and Troy Tulowitzki (394) of the Toronto Blue Jays, who slugged their way to a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

-22 - Baltimore's run differential in July, throughout which they've gone 11-13. Heading into Saturday's matinee at Rogers Centre, the Orioles' lead over the Blue Jays for first place in the American League East stands at a 1/2 game.

39 - Games between home runs for beleaguered Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward, whose two-run blast off Hisashi Iwakuma was his first round-tripper since he took Matt Wisler deep on June 11.

91 - Miles per hour reading on the throw from Ichiro - yep, that Ichiro - that cut down Kolten Wong trying to tag up from third on a fly ball from Greg Garcia in the top of the fourth inning.

20 - Consecutive road games in which Houston Astros star Jose Altuve has hit safely, tying him with Wilson Ramos and Odubel Herrera for the longest such streak in the majors this season. Altuve, who smacked his 18th homer in his club's loss to the Detroit Tigers, leads the bigs with a .356 average, too, and is now 22-for-46 (.478) over his last 11 games.

5.64 - ERA since May 25 for New York Yankees right-hander (and reported trade candidate) Ivan Nova, who didn't make it out of the fifth inning Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time since June 21.

96.15 - Save-conversion rate of Milwaukee Brewers closer Jeremy Jeffress, the highly coveted right-hander who recorded the final out of his club's 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates to nail down his 25th save of 2016.

0 - Information Jonathan Lucroy has about a potential trade, as the Milwaukee Brewers catcher told reporters ahead of Friday's contest that he "(doesn't) know anything about anything" despite being linked in trade rumors to seven teams over the last two days.

0.69 - Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester's ERA in two interleague starts this season, following his six scoreless innings against the Seattle Mariners on a rainy afternoon at Wrigley Field.

.388 - Average of Miami Marlins third baseman Martin Prado over his last 18 games, following his 2-for-4 performance in his club's loss to St. Louis, giving him nine multi-hit contests over that span.
