Colorado regents approved a three-year extension for athletic director Rick George on Thursday that takes his contract through June 30, 2021.

Along with the added years comes a slight raise in salary, as George will now make a base of $754,314 per year. George previously had two years remaining on a five-year deal signed in August of 2013.

"Just like our student-athletes, Rick George is performing at a high level and his accomplishments reflect positively on the university," chancellor Phil DiStefano said, according to the Denver Post's Brian Howell.

While the Buffaloes haven't seen their football or basketball programs take off quite as hoped, George has played an integral role in raising over $100 million for the department since taking took over, allowing him to initiate several facility upgrades.

"He's doing a tremendous job," said regent Glen Gallegos. "I've seen an increase in organizational professionalism in how all of our athletics and programs are run at the university. I think that he’s liked by academics as well as athletics, so that he's able to work back and forth and there's not that wall."

The board of regents voted unanimously to approve George's extension, which will make him the second-highest paid athletic director at a public university in the Pac-12, according to Brian Howell of BuffZone.com.
