North Carolina's Ty'Son Williams to transfer

Jason Getz / USA TODAY Sports

North Carolina confirmed Thursday that sophomore running back Ty'Son Williams will transfer.

Williams racked up just 57 yards on 19 carries last season as a freshman after coming to the Tar Heels as ESPN's 135th-ranked recruit in the country.

He was once thought to be the team's running back of the future, but with junior Elijah Hood and senior T.J. Logan cemented atop the depth chart, it appears Williams grew tired waiting his turn.

Williams will still have to play the waiting game should he transfer to another FBS school, however, as NCAA transfer rules require him to sit out the upcoming campaign.
