3 teams that could sign Eugene Monroe

The Baltimore Ravens' selection of Ronnie Stanley in the first round of the draft sealed Eugene Monroe's fate. The veteran left tackle was released by the Ravens on Wednesday.

It's rare for a starting-caliber left tackle to be made available, especially at this stage of the offseason, but Monroe's hefty salary and extensive injury history should limit the interest he generates from teams.

Here are three teams that could consider signing Monroe:

Seahawks

The Seahawks' steadfast refusal to invest resources in protecting Russell Wilson is puzzling, but general manager Jon Schneider could ease some concerns by buying low on Monroe. The move would allow the Seahawks to have Garry Gilliam and J'Marcus Webb compete to start at right tackle, rather than forcing the team to start both sub-par players as bookend tackles.

The Seahawks let Russell Okung walk in free agency and could see Monroe as possessing some of the same annoying flaws, but they could also see acquiring Monroe as the chance to correct a mistake.

Rams

Signing Monroe would be painful for the Rams, because it would mean admitting the Greg Robinson-left tackle experiment has been a failure. But it could be a good thing for the team overall, as it would allow Robinson to permanently move to the right side, where he can use his freakish strength to maul defenders without worrying about Jared Goff's blind side.

Protecting the first overall pick should be priority No. 1 in Los Angeles and adding Monroe is the most significant move the Rams can make to achieve that goal at this stage of the offseason.

Bears

The Bears rebuilt their woeful offensive line this offseason, adding Bobby Massie, drafting Cody Whitehair, and moving Kyle Long back to guard, but the unit still has major question marks.

Charles Leno Jr. is penciled in as the Bears' starting left tackle, but it's hard to imagine the team wouldn't love to find an upgrade for the 2014 seventh-round pick. Monroe would certainly be one.
