Chargers' McCoy disappointed Bosa not at minicamp

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy says he's disappointed that first-round pick Joey Bosa elected to skip mandatory minicamp due to a contract dispute.

Bosa was selected third overall out of Ohio State, after a prodigious college career where he won a national championship in 2014 and was named a two-time consensus All-American.

The 20-year-old defensive end is reportedly seeking a contract that doesn't include offset language. If the Chargers took offset language out of his contract, it would mean that they'd be forced to pay Bosa his entire guaranteed portion, even if he were signed by another club. However, if offset language was included, the Chargers would only be responsible for paying the difference between his old salary and his new one upon signing with a different club.

McCoy says that while Bosa sits out, he's focusing on the rest of the roster.

"Without a doubt we're all disappointed he's not here. But our No. 1 focus is the players who are here. Time will work that out,'' McCoy said through The Associated Press.

Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget was more optimistic about his new teammate.

"Whatever's going on is between him and ownership and management, and I'm pretty sure they'll figure something out and he'll be out here soon,'' Liuget said. ''He's one of the hardest-working rookies we have right now. At the end of the day, I know once he gets out here he'll make up for it. He's very humble. He's very calm, cool, collected. He just works his tail off. He's getter better every day.''

Bosa figures to be a key component of the Chargers' defense for the foreseeable future, but it's safe to say that he's not off to the best start with his new club.
