theScore is counting down the best players who will be on display at Euro 2016, as voted by our collection of soccer editors.

20. Leonardo Bonucci (Italy)

Drawing on his formative years as a midfielder, Bonucci has the ability to kickstart a play from the back three. A commanding and equally skillful centre-back.

19. Toby Alderweireld (Belgium)

Alderweireld has progressed immeasurably in two Premier League campaigns, forging an at-times impenetrable backline at Tottenham. A supremely bright defender.

18. Manuel Neuer (Germany)

The definition of a sweeper keeper, Neuer touches the ball more than some attacking players. Sometimes a risky proposition, other times a saviour.

17. Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)

Built like a boxer but equally fleet-footed, Lukaku is a throwback striker who has added playmaking to his collection of growing skills. Belgium's leading man.

16. Andres Iniesta (Spain)

One of the most talented Spanish players in history is also the smoothest. Iniesta is a diminutive game-changer who can identify the right pass at the right time.

15. Ivan Rakitic (Croatia)

An industrious midfielder with deadly passing accuracy, Rakitic covers ground like few other players in Europe. The heir to Xavi at Barcelona.

14. Harry Kane (England)

When confident, Kane has a habit of getting an obscene amount of shots on goal. A real all-rounder in the ilk of England great Alan Shearer.

13. Jerome Boateng (Germany)

Boateng will unfortunately always be remembered for being tied in knots by Lionel Messi in 2015, but his wealth of winners' medals is a testament to his cultured defending.

12. Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)

Within weeks of De Bruyne's Manchester City move, he was orchestrating the team and winning matches on his own. A phenomenal talent.

11. Antoine Griezmann (France)

Diego Simeone has turned Griezmann into one of the world's best two-way players. Superb on the counterattack.

10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden)

Ibrahimovic, Sweden's captain, is aging so well, and he's coming off a 50-goal season with Paris Saint-Germain. He scores how and when he wants.

9. Sergio Busquets (Spain)

Busquets' rolling around and incessant moaning make him one of the most unlikable players in world football, but his ability to dictate matches from his position is mouthwatering and unmatched.

8. Luka Modric (Croatia)

Croatia's finest talent is Modric, who can navigate a pitch like a commander at sea. He's at his best when he has the licence to roam. A playmaker to treasure.

7. Mesut Ozil (Germany)

With a left foot that could create art worthy of hanging in The Louvre, Ozil's even managed to make Joel Campbell look decent at Arsenal.

6. David Alaba (Austria)

Unfortunately stifled somewhat as a makeshift centre-back under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, Euro 2016 will hopefully see the 23-year-old Alaba at his influential best.

5. Robert Lewandowski (Poland)

Lewandowski pings shots on net with unerring accuracy, and his physical attributes make him a nightmare for defenders. Will be frightening alongside Arkadiusz Milik.

4. Paul Pogba (France)

A tour de force in the midfield, Pogba can win possession and turn it into a goal. One of the world's best in the position.

3. Thomas Muller (Germany)

The Bayern Munich man is a bundle of raw energy, and Muller always produces best performances on the biggest stage. A space invader in every sense.

2. Gareth Bale (Wales)

Bale stood out above all his contemporaries - yes, even Ronaldo - in the Champions League final, showing why he remains one of the most fearsome players on the planet.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Ronaldo is easily the best player at the tournament and one you suspect will love decimating the Austrian, Hungarian, and Icelandic defences in the group stage.
