Report: Dolphins worked out Dan Herron

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins worked out free-agent running back Dan "Boom" Herron on Monday, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

The Dolphins are faced with a shortage of depth at the running back position. Jay Ajayi sits atop the depth chart, but had just 49 carries during his rookie campaign in 2015.

Herron's best season came in 2014, when he produced 521 rushing yards combined in the regular season and the postseason with the Indianapolis Colts. However, he failed to make an impact last season, rushing for 79 yards for the Colts and the Buffalo Bills.
