Texans waive David Quessenberry with NFI designation

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans waived offensive lineman David Quessenberry with the non-football injury designation, the team confirmed Tuesday.

Quessenberry was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in June 2014 and hasn't played since, spending the last two seasons on the non-football illness list. The offensive lineman announced that his cancer was in remission last June and announced his intention to return to football.

"We believed he wasn't going to be ready from a health standpoint to adequately compete this year," Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said.

'We want him to fully attack and beat cancer, which he will do, get him back on 90-man roster at some point," O'Brien added.

Quessenberry was selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of San Jose State.
