Peyton Manning won't coach QBs at Tennessee this season

Don't expect Peyton Manning to return to the sideline in any capacity anytime soon.

Speculation about Manning's career plans has been a hot topic ever since he announced his retirement in March, but the 40-year-old has remained coy on his future.

However, Manning was a guest speaker at the Middle Tennessee Sports Awards in Nashville on Thursday and ruled out returning to coach at his alma mater, Tennessee.

"No, I will not be coaching quarterbacks at Tennessee, but I will be the biggest Vols fan this year," Manning said, according to Nashville radio host Austin Stanley.

So, it remains unclear how and if Manning will remain in the spotlight in 2016, with it appearing increasingly unlikely that he'll take a TV or front-office role at the present time.

After 22 combined seasons playing football in college and the NFL, Manning seems content being a fan.

"I'm a huge Butch Jones fan," Manning said, according to Jessica Bliss of The Tennessean. "I'm excited about the Tennessee Vols and how we're gonna do this year."

Manning also addressed whether he'll allow his 5-year-old son to play football.

"Football is an intense physical game. It's hard to change that," Manning said, but admitted that he will allow his son to follow in his footsteps if he wishes.
