Hodgson confirms Sturridge suffered calf strain

Daniel Sturridge is racing to regain fitness ahead of Euro 2016 after manager Roy Hodgson confirmed the forward has missed England's last two training sessions because of a calf strain.

The Liverpool player was held out of England's friendly draw with Turkey on Monday, and will now miss the Three Lions' match Friday against Australia, which is the country's final outing before Hodgson trims his 26-man provisional squad down to 23.

The English gaffer added that Sturridge's injury likely paves the way for Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford to play a significant role versus the Australians.

England hasn't yet provided a timeline for Sturridge's return.
