Amid a disastrous start to his season following a blockbuster trade over the winter, the Arizona Diamondbacks will reportedly place right-hander Shelby Miller on the disabled list, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

While the exact nature of the injury wasn't revealed, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale did tell reporters on Thursday that Miller's right pointer finger is continuing to give him trouble. The 25-year-old left a start in April after scraping his hand on the ground while throwing a pitch.

"I think his finger is still not where we'd like it to be after hitting it on the ground in San Diego," Hale said following Miller's latest rough outing on Thursday, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "He's still having some residual effects of that with feel. He's been good to pitch. He's pitched through it. But we’ve got to make 100 percent sure that thing is not affecting his performance."

Miller was supposed to join Zack Greinke as part of a potent front end to Arizona's rotation, but instead has struggled immensely since being acquired from the Atlanta Braves in a shocking offseason trade. Thursday's start, in which he gave up six runs on eight hits in Pittsburgh, sent his ERA to a stunning 7.09 over 45 2/3 innings this year.
