Vince Edwards returning to Purdue for junior season

Sandra Dukes-USA TODAY Sports

Purdue received some encouraging news Tuesday, as one of the Boilermakers' two early entrants into the 2016 NBA Draft has decided to remain in school.

Vince Edwards announced he has withdrawn from the draft and will return to Purdue for his junior season.

"After getting the NBA experience and going through the evaluation process, I have talked with my family and Coach (Matt) Painter and decided it is best for me to return for my junior year," Edwards said. "Although the NBA is still a dream for me one day, I am coming back to Purdue to make next year a special one."

The 6-foot-8 forward was second on the Boilermakers last season in scoring with 11.3 points per game, while chipping in 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists, and shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc. He scored a team-high 24 points and added 13 rebounds in Purdue's 85-83 upset loss to Little Rock in the first round of this year's NCAA tournament.

With Edwards' decision now made, the Boilermakers will wait for freshman Caleb Swanigan to decide whether he'll stay in the draft. They won't have long to wait, as the deadline for withdrawing is on Wednesday.
