Bills GM: I don't think Watkins will miss games with broken foot

David Butler II / USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills suffered a major setback in their preparations for the 2016 season when wide receiver Sammy Watkins underwent surgery for a broken foot earlier this offseason.

After the Bills announced his injury, Watkins tweeted that he'll be ready for the preseason, and general manager Doug Whaley shares his optimism.

Whaley said during an appearance Tuesday on WGR-AM he doesn't anticipate Watkins to miss any regular-season games, according to the Buffalo News' Tyler Dunne.

However, he said the Bills have yet to set a target date for Watkins' return.

Watkins is the focal point of the Bills' passing offense, and with little proven depth behind him, the team can't afford for him to remain sidelined when the season rolls around.

The 22-year-old had 1,047 yards in 13 games last season, almost double the amount produced by Buffalo's second-leading receiver.
