Frank Lampard is back. Finally.

The 37-year-old rejoins New York City FC after an ongoing calf injury ruled him out for the opening 12 matches of the season. Lampard's return to health comes just in time for a bench role in the Hudson River Derby match against the New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium Saturday.

The iconic Englishman hasn't featured for NYCFC yet this season.

In his absence, fellow Designated Player stars David Villa and Andrea Pirlo have helped propel the team to a rare first-place spot in the Eastern Conference, with Patrick Vieira's side picking up points in each of its last five matches, including in a 1-1 result at Toronto FC last Wednesday.

Lampard will now have a chance to justify his whopping $6-million per year salary, though he'll need to come off the bench, first.
