Longtime Miami Heat assistant David Fizdale as reached an agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies to become their head coach.

The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Fizdale agreed to a four-year deal. The fourth year of the contract will be a team option.

Fizdale beat out San Antonio Spurs assistant James Borrego for the post.

Previous reports suggested that Fizdale wowed Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace before progressing to a meeting with team owner Robert Pera earlier this week.

The 41-year-old had been with the Heat organization since 2008 serving as their director of player development before being promoted to associate head coach. Prior to that, Fizdale worked with the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.

Under Fizdale, the Heat have seen the development of unheralded prospects Hassan Whiteside, Josh Richardson, and Tyler Johnson, among others.

Along with Erik Spoelstra, Fizdale helped guide the Heat to two championships and carries a strong reputation for building strong relationships in the locker room.

Memphis finished with their worst record in six seasons after recording just 42 wins before an injury-riddled squad got walloped in a first-round playoff sweep.
