Riley calls Wade irreplaceable, a lifer in Miami

The Miami Heat front office doesn't appear to be willing to let Dwyane Wade entertain the free-agent market this summer.

That's good, because Wade has acknowledged himself that he doesn't want to.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire 13-year career in Miami, and Heat president Pat Riley plans on rewarding Wade for his services when the two sides sit down to negotiate a new deal this summer.

"He wants to win, I think, as much as he wants to do anything," Riley told Dave George of the Palm Beach Post. "Compensation to a player is not just a way to get paid and to live your life. Compensation to a player is about recognition and respect and place. We know where he belongs… he's a lifer. What he's done in this city over the last 13 years is irreplaceable and so we're going to do the right thing. There's no doubt."

Wade is part of a star-studded free-agent class this summer that could potentially include LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard, but there's no place he'd rather be than in Miami.

"I don't want to be on the market at all," Wade said following the Heat's playoff exit. "I'm not curious at all. I want to get to it (with the Heat). I want to be able to sign my deal and move on and not have to deal with any rumors, any free agency, any this, any that. This is where I want to end my career. So we'll figure it out."

Wade is coming off a year in which he averaged 19 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds across 30.5 minutes - the lowest usage of his career - in 74 games.

Riley is expected to have a highly active summer. In addition to Wade, Hassan Whiteside, Udonis Haslem, Luol Deng, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Joe Johnson are all free agents, while health concerns surrounding Chris Bosh have left his playing future up in the air.
