BYU's Taysom Hill changes number to honor brother

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Taysom Hill will change his jersey from No. 4 to No. 7 for his final collegiate season at BYU to honor his brother Dexter, who died at age 31 last March.

The Cougars quarterback posted a heartfelt message on Twitter making the announcement.

Dexter wore No. 7 throughout his college career at Dixie State and Northern Iowa.

Last season was supposed to be the younger Hill's final collegiate campaign, but a Lisfranc injury suffered in the season-opening game against Nebraska sidelined him for the entire schedule. The NCAA granted him a medical redshirt, making him eligible for the 2016 slate.

Tanner Mangum replaced Taysom last season and showed himself more than capable of leading the Cougars, leaving the starting job up for grabs.
