Report: Free-agent RB Bernard Pierce suspended 2 games

Amber Searls / USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent running back Bernard Pierce received a two-game suspension from the NFL this week, reports Field Yates of ESPN.

Though a reason for the league discipline has not yet been made clear, the 24-year-old had pleaded guilty to a DUI charge in October.

Should he land with a new team heading into the 2016 campaign, he'd presumably be permitted to participate in training camp and preseason action before serving the two-game ban.

Pierce is coming off a year in which he saw limited work with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After joining the club as a March waiver claim, he went on to suit up for seven games before being sent to injured reserve with a calf injury.

The former third-round pick spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, appearing in 45 games and racking up 1,334 rushing yards.
