Michigan's Kameron Chatman to transfer out of program

The once highly-touted Kameron Chatman's career at Michigan is over, as the sophomore guard has decided to transfer out of the program and play elsewhere.

"Kam is a wonderful young man with the potential to mature into a fine college player," head coach John Beilein said in a statement. "We have enjoyed coaching him over the past two years and wish him nothing but the best."

The Portland native was the 38th overall prospect in the 2014 recruiting class, and was ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon. His commitment to the Wolverines represents the highest-ranked player in the last three classes for Beilein.

Chatman never found his footing with the Wolverine program, struggling for playing time in each of his two seasons. After a freshman campaign where the 6-foot-7, 215-pounder scored 3.6 points in 15 minutes per game, he regressed in 2015-16, averaging just 2.8 points in 7.2 minutes.

Despite his struggles, he did hit perhaps the biggest shot of the year for the Wolverines, a buzzer-beating three to knock off Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament. That shot likely secured the NCAA tournament bid for the program.

Although his numbers are underwhelming, he will likely receive a lot of interest on the transfer market due to his pedigree from high school. As per NCAA transfer regulations, he will be forced to sit out the 2016-17 season before becoming eligible the following year.
