The New England Patriots declined their fifth-year option on guard Jonathan Cooper, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cooper was acquired by the Patriots in a March trade with the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for Pro Bowl defensive end Chandler Jones. New England also accrued a second-round pick that it later traded to the New Orleans Saints.

The 26-year-old was selected seventh overall by the Cardinals in 2013. Cooper is expected to start at right guard for the Patriots next season, in spite of the fact that they didn't extend him through 2017.

Cooper started nine games for the Cardinals last season.
