The Minnesota Vikings have informed wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson that they will not pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, a league source told Ben Goessling of ESPN.

Patterson is the only one of the Vikings' three first-round picks from the 2013 NFL Draft not to have his option exercised, after the team reportedly opted to take up the options on the contracts of cornerback Xavier Rhodes and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd.

The 25-year-old failed to establish himself as a traditional wide receiver following a standout rookie season, in which he became a special teams ace, earning All-Pro honors.

He only caught two passes for 10 yards during the 2015 season, and with the Vikings adding Laquon Treadwell in the draft to pair with outstanding second-year wideout Stefon Diggs, Patterson slipped further down the depth chart ahead of next season.

It's not impossible that Patterson turns his career around and forces Minnesota to offer him a long-term deal, but it's more likely that he'll be hitting free agency after the 2016 season.
