Virginia lands QB Kurt Benkert as transfer from East Carolina

The quarterback depth chart at Virginia has a new name on it, as Kurt Benkert announced Sunday he's transferring to the Cavaliers from East Carolina.

Benkert let his intentions to transfer be known a week ago, after he missed all of last season with a knee injury.

The junior pivot will graduate before making his move official, meaning he'll be eligible to play immediately. He'll carry two years of eligibility with him to Virginia.

Benkert rarely saw the field as a Pirate, and totaled just 58 passing yards and one interception over the course of his East Carolina career.

As for the Cavaliers, Matt Johns figures to head into fall camp as the team's starting quarterback. He started all 12 games for Virginia last year.
