Mane's hat-trick lifts Southampton past Manchester City

Southampton delivered a heavy defeat to a Manchester City squad that appeared to have an eye on Wednesday's return leg with Real Madrid as the Saints came away from Sunday's encounter with a 4-2 victory.

Sadio Mane proved impossible for City defenders to contain as the Senegalese forward banged in three goals following Shane Long's opener in the first half.

Despite a crammed league schedule around City's participation in the Champions League, the result won't do much for the team's confidence ahead of Wednesday's match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Supporters were even heard chanting, "Are you watching Real Madrid?" once Mane completed the hat-trick.

The loss leaves City in fourth place, with a match against third-place side Arsenal awaiting it after the Champions League match. Meanwhile, Southampton's win lifts the club into the final Europa League spot in the table.
