Free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears, the team announced Saturday.

Financial terms of the deal weren't released by the team, but according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Hoyer signed a deal worth $2 million.

The quarterback was released by the Houston Texans on April 17 after Brock Osweiler signed a four-year, $72-million contract on the opening day of free agency, rendering Hoyer expendable.

Six teams were interested in the 30-year-old, per ESPN's Adam Caplan.

"When he's played, he's been productive," Bears general manager Ryan Pace said of Hoyer.

In his lone season with the Texans, Hoyer started nine games and completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 2,606 yards and 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions.

Hoyer will serve as Jay Cutler's backup, ascending past David Fales on the depth chart.
