Iowa State's Mitrou-Long granted medical hardship waiver

Iowa State guard Naz Mitrou-Long has been granted a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA, making him eligible to return to the Cyclones next season.

Mitrou-Long missed all but eight games of the 2015-16 season due to injuries to both hips.

"Everything happens for a reason and although it hurt to not be able to play for a group of guys I loved last year, my body needed time to recover and that time off allowed me to feel the best I’ve felt since my freshman year," Mitrou-Long said in a statement. "I’m glad I’ll be able to play for the best fans in the country and represent the name on the front of my jersey, Iowa State, one more year. Words can’t describe this feeling. Cyclone Nation, be ready for a special year."

Mitrou-Long averaged 12 points last season, and has averaged 7.5 points over his college career.

The Mississauga, Ont., native could be a key cog in the Iowa State machine next year, as the club moves on from graduated seniors Georges Niang, Abdel Nader, and Jameel McKay.
