Green: Warriors laughed at Terry's Game 5 guarantee

Houston Rockets guard Jason Terry guaranteed that his team would walk into Oracle Arena on Wednesday night and pull out a crucial victory in Game 5 to send their best-of-seven series with the Stephen Curry-less Golden State Warriors back home.

That ultimately didn't happen, though, as the defending NBA champions crushed the Rockets by 33 points, 114-81.

The Warriors didn't really need much incentive to close out Houston in a series clincher on their home floor. However, with Terry's comments, the players had a fire lit under them to make the 38-year-old veteran eat his words.

"My teammates and I laughed about it," Green wrote in a first-person piece for ESPN's The Undefeated. "I actually screenshot Jet's guarantee quote and put it in the group chat. I said, 'You see this mess?' It wasn't like we needed the bulletin board material. We were coming out here to close it out, anyway. Everybody was like, 'Really? All right. Let's get it. Let's go.'"

At the end of the day, Green still has nothing but love for Terry and what he's accomplished throughout his career, but making such a bold claim means backing it up with strong play - something Terry couldn't do.

"I got mad respect for Jet," Green wrote. "He's a guy that's done it in the league for a long time. He was a big part of the championship team that beat LeBron (James) and the Heat the year after 'The Decision.' If a dog don't wag his own tail, who is going to wag it? I'm not sure about coming out here guaranteeing a win, but he has to do something to get his guys going. I respect that.

"But the big homey can't come out here and put out an 0-for-7 donut if he's going to guarantee a win."

Green nearly finished with a triple-double in 31 minutes, scoring 15 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out eight assists as Golden State advanced to the second round for the third time in four years.
