Nats place Ramos on bereavement list after grandfather's death
The Washington Nationals will be without catcher Wilson Ramos for at least the next three games, manager Dusty Baker confirmed Tuesday, as the 28-year-old has been placed on the bereavement list following the death of his grandfather, Jesus Campos.
"I talked to him this morning; he was pretty shook up," Baker told MASN's Mark Zuckerman. "He'll join us sometime over the weekend in St. Louis."
Pedro Severino, a 22-year-old catcher who owns a .522 OPS through his first 13 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season, was recalled to take Ramos' spot on the 25-man roster.
Ramos, who broke the news of his grandather's death to Baker on Tuesday morning, has enjoyed a strong start to the 2016 campaign, hitting .316/.328/.491 (109 OPS+) with two home runs and four doubles in 15 games.
