New Mexico State hires Paul Weir as head coach
New Mexico State has reached an agreement in principle to hire Paul Weir to be its head coach, the team announced Tuesday.
"I am both humbled and honored to accept the position of head coach at New Mexico State University," said Weir. "To be able to realize this dream is quite simply the opportunity of a lifetime. I am going to pour my heart and soul into this program to make it the best it can be."
Weir served as an assistant with the Aggies for 10 seasons and has held the title as associate head coach since 2011. The program qualified for five NCAA tournament appearances during that time.
Former head coach Melvin Menzies led the team to a record of 23-11 last season but the team failed to qualify for the tournament. Menzies has since moved on to UNLV.
