Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr has accepted a pay cut in order to stay with the team in 2016, Albert Breer of NFL Network reports.

The new deal will reportedly see Carr's salary reduced from $9.1 million to under $6 million.

It's likely the Cowboys would've cut Carr if they hadn't been able to arrange a pay cut, as they were rumored to have interest in several other options in free agency that didn't pan out.

The team also brought back Morris Claiborne on a one-year contract despite his ineffective play since being selected sixth overall in the 2012 draft.

Carr signed a five-year, $50-million deal with the Cowboys in 2012, making him one of the highest-paid corners in the league. He's been unable to reproduce his level of play from the first four years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, however, and has tallied zero interceptions over his past two seasons.
