Byron Scott's vacated seat is still warm, but potential successors are already crawling out of the woodwork to put forth their candidacy to fill it, and reign as the next Los Angeles Lakers head coach.

One such person is former New York Knicks coach and longtime Lakers player Derek Fisher.

While the Lakers, who fired Scott on Sunday, are still compiling their list of desired candidates and gauging interest, Fisher has expressed his interest in the job, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reports.

Fisher was fired in February, after compiling a 40-96 record through a 1 1/2 seasons with the Knicks. He transitioned to coaching immediately following the conclusion of his playing career, which he wrapped up by playing 81 games for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013-14.

Fisher and Scott were actually teammates during Fisher's rookie season in 1996-97, the first of his 13 seasons as a Laker.

Other reported candidates for the Lakers job are Golden State Warriors assistant Luke Walton, former Knicks and Houston Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, San Antonio Spurs lead assistant Ettore Messina, and UConn coach Kevin Ollie.
