NCAA grants Georgetown's Bradley Hayes extra year of eligibility

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Georgetown got some good news Friday, as senior center Bradley Hayes was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, the school announced.

Hayes informed his teammates of the decision at the team's season-ending banquet, according to CSN Mid-Atlantic's Ben Standig.

The 7-foot, 275-pounder averaged a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game despite only playing 21.4 minutes. He also scored 8.7 points per contest on impressive 54 percent shooting from the field.

With Hayes returning, the Hoyas' frontcourt should be a dominant unit for 2016-17. Jessie Govan and Akoy Agau, who stand 6-foot-10 and 6-foot-8 respectively, also return for Georgetown.

The news reportedly came as a surprise to Hayes' teammates, who assumed he was giving his senior farewell speech when he broke the news.

Hayes only played 14 total minutes in his freshman campaign due to family issues, and his minimal action likely led to the NCAA's decision.
