Report: Dedric Lawson declares for NBA draft a week after withdrawing name

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Dedric Lawson has changed his mind yet again.

The Memphis forward originally declared for the 2016 NBA Draft following the Tigers' season, but did not hire an agent, leaving open the possibility of returning to school.

On April 12, Lawson exercised that option, announcing he was returning to Memphis to play the 2016-17 season. That changed on Wednesday, when the 6-foot-8 freshman declared for the 2016 NBA Draft again, and again will not hire an agent, a source told Marc Spears of ESPN.

A great deal has happened with the Memphis program since Lawson originally declared for the draft. Josh Pastner left his post as Tigers head coach to join Georgia Tech and the school brought in Texas Tech's Tubby Smith to replace him.

Lawson's father, Keelon, served as an assistant coach to Pastner this past season and its unclear whether he will be retained on Smith's staff. Dedric's brother, K.J., is also a member of the Tigers, but missed the final two months of the season due to injury.

The deadline to withdraw from the draft is May 25, so that leaves Lawson over a month to potentially change his mind yet again.
