Report: Monty Williams not expected to return to Thunder next season

Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams has been away from the team since his wife's death in February, and it may be some time before he returns to the NBA.

Williams opted to step away from coaching following his wife's car accident in order to care for his five children and he's not expected to return to the staff next season, according to Anthony Slater of the Oklahoman. Williams does, however, plan to help out with Team USA during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

While Williams hasn't been around the Thunder since the accident, he and his children did attend Game 1 of the team's series with the Dallas Mavericks, sitting in the family seats.

"Obviously going through what he went through and knowing where his family's seats are and where his wife would be sitting, I'm sure that probably took some time to even get to that place," Thunder head coach Billy Donovan said last week. "I was watching a Dallas game, one of ours at home, and I got to the end of the tape and stopped the tape and we were walking off the court and I just saw him do this (waving across the court) across the way.

"So I think the difficulty of going back into those seats is challenging. I'm really happy he wanted to come back and be a part and watch. It was great to see him."
