With a new athletic director in place at Texas A&M, a return of the Aggies' rivalry with Texas could be in the cards.

While it certainly wasn't a strong indication the rivals will square off again, the fact Scott Woodward is open to it is progress in its own right.

"It'll be something we'll consider," he said last week. "It'll be a discussion I'll have to have. I have no objection to it. It's something that has to work for us and for folks."

The two teams haven't played since the Aggies left the Big 12 for the greener pastures of the SEC in 2012. While a return to the rivalry would be exciting for both fan bases, Woodward stressed there are more important things for the Aggies' program.

"We have to really assess what is our best path to winning the SEC West," the former Washington athletic director said. "I don't foresee anything happening in the near future. Rivalries, I think, are healthy for the game."

The Longhorns have dominated the overall series, holding a 76-37-5 edge, but with their recent struggles, the Aggies have certainly been the stronger school in Texas.
