Report: Arsenal eyes Boca Juniors wunderkind Rodrigo Bentancur

Arsenal is the latest club to be linked with a move for Boca Juniors teenage sensation Rodrigo Bentancur.

The 18-year-old has flourished since being deployed as a deep-lying midfielder for the Buenos Aires outfit, and ESPN FC's Peter O'Rourke reports that Gunners scouts are set to watch the Uruguayan in his probable start against Club Atletico Tigre on Monday.

Bentancur has previously been subject to suggestions that Real Madrid is interested in acquiring his signature, and has spoken of his admiration for English football, with a particular fondness for Manchester United.

Arsenal's advances are expected to be met with resistance from Boca, but the club is prepared for a deluge of offers for its prized asset upon the conclusion of the major European leagues.

Arsene Wenger already boasts some young talent plugging his midfield, with Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny, but the inevitable departure of 32-year-old Mathieu Flamini this summer does offer a spot for Bentancur to fill in the squad.

Bentancur would add some considerable strength and intelligence in the middle of the park for Arsenal, in addition to his expansive passing and fine turn of pace.

Arsenal returns to Premier League action with the visit of Crystal Palace next Sunday.
