49ers take OT John Theus in 5th round

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The San Francisco 49ers have selected offensive tackle John Theus out of Georgia in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 145th overall.

Theus joins the 49ers offensive front with the versatility to play tackle on either side.

Barring a return of Anthony Davis from retirement, Theus could be in the mix for reps at right tackle opposite Joe Staley. He and first-round guard Joshua Garnett earning starting roles would go a long way toward upgrading the offensive line in Chip Kelly's first year at the helm.
