Report: Hinkie suspects Jerry Colangelo leaked 13-page resignation

Only one thing is clear in the fallout in Philadelphia: Jerry Colangelo was not a fan of Sam Hinkie.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical claims Colangelo has largely tried to marginalize Hinkie since ownership brought the longtime USA Basketball director on board in January.

Perhaps the most egregious infraction came when Hinkie's 13-page resignation letter was leaked to the press mere moments after he sent it to owners. Sources tell Wojnarowski that Hinkie suspects Colangelo (among the 13 recipients of the letter) leaked his private manifesto.

Given all the circumstances around Hinkie's exit, finding Colangelo at the center of the maelstrom wouldn't be a surprise. Wojnarowski notes that Hinkie tried to work with Colangelo, to no avail.

Colangelo remained resolute in his thinking that Hinkie lacked the people skills to run the organization, and opted to shoehorn Hinkie as a glorified analytics leader. Colangelo convinced ownership that they needed someone a basketball-savvy executive with better interpersonal skills.

In the search for a new basketball executive, Colangelo was "recused" from the process, but wanted his son Bryan to be tabbed. And while Bryan hoped to avoid claims of nepotism, the owners eventually decided to bring him on, which cost Hinkie his job in the process.
