Bulls hire Horace Grant as special advisor

Rob Grabowski-US PRESSWIRE

As the current Chicago Bulls tailspin their way out of playoff contention, the organization is reaching into its glory years for front-office assistance.

The Bulls announced Wednesday that Horace Grant has been named as a special advisor to team president Michael Reinsdorf. Grant joins two other Bulls legends, Scottie Pippen and Toni Kukoc, in a similar capacity.

Grant was Chicago's starting power forward for its first three-peat between 1991-93. He then left for the Orlando Magic in free agency in 1994, angering team owner Jerry Reinsdorf because he claimed Grant had verbally committed to remaining with the Bulls.

Reinsdorf handed the reins of team presidency to his son Michael in 2010, but the elder Reinsdorf told the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson on Tuesday that he buried the hatchet with Grant on that issue a year ago.

"I finally forgave him. Time heals all wounds," Jerry said. "He and I shook hands on a contract and then he denied it. I was very upset with him. I saw Horace last year at a fundraiser and said, 'I'm not mad at you anymore.' He said, 'My bad.'"

Grant, 50, won one more NBA championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001 to go with this three from Chicago.

The Bulls have lost six of their last nine contests and sit two games out of the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot with four games remaining.
